Hobart Cruises was launched in 2003–the realisation
of an entrepreneurial vision to link Hobart's stunning waterways with Peppermint Bay, a world class destination in southern Tasmania.
The culmination of this vision was the half-day Peppermint Bay Cruise – a unique, authentic experience in Tasmania's southern waters.
The Peppermint Bay Cruise has delivered a voyage of 'indulgent exploration' to tens of thousands of guests, combining Peppermint Bay's exquisite food and wine with world class cruising on the River Derwent, North Bruny Island and D'Entrecasteaux Channel aboard the Peppermint Bay II.
With the success of the Peppermint Bay Cruise, Hobart Cruises' vision continued to grow. Significant market research and direct feedback gathered from guests revealed a desire among Tasmanian, interstate and international tourists for a new experience – one not yet offered in the Tasmanian boat tour market. And so the concept of the Bruny Wildlife Adventure was born – a full day experience combining the indulgence and luxury of the Peppermint Bay Cruise with unique coastal wilderness and the intimate engagement of a small group wildlife expedition.
Wild Thing Adventures began operation in 2006, delivering a range of extremely successful products in Wild Thing – a 26-seat eco adventure vessel.
Wild Thing's most successful tours were without doubt the eco wildlife cruises the company offered around Bruny Island. Owner Glen Shackclothe had created these tours out of 16 years' experience as a commercial abalone diver around Bruny Island and Tasmania's south coast. Glen's knowledge of wildlife (both above and below the sea), coastline, weather conditions and seal colonies made him the ultimate host for an expedition into the Bruny Island wilderness.
In early 2008, Hobart Cruises acquired Wild Thing Adventures, thereby completing the vision for the Bruny Wildlife Adventure. The intention for the product is clear – the best wildlife expedition in Tasmania.
The Bruny Wildlife Adventure represents the coming together of two incredibly successful products to create the ultimate day of exhilaration and adventure, luxury and relaxation.
